Summary

The Arts& Initiative at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is holding a call for proposals containing a plan of action to pursue a creative project intended for social good. After submissions have been reviewed and one project is selected for pursual, the student(s) with the winning idea will be awarded $1000 in seed funds to see their project into fruition during the Spring 2017 semester.

Guidelines

• Proposed project must be based in the arts or have a significant arts component, including but not limited to any
 of the following: fine arts (drawing, painting, etc), design arts, performance, music, dance, filmmaking, media, etc.
• Proposed project must aim to make a social or environmental impact on the community.
• Project must be temporary (i.e., no public art sculptures that would be permanently mounted/secured)
• Student or student team must provide a clear plan of action, timeline, materials list (if applicable), and realistic
 budget estimate of the cost of the project.
• Project must be completed during the Spring 2017 semester by May 5, 2017

Examples

Get creative! Projects could be any of the following but not limited to: a poster campaign, a smartphone app, a service project, a temporary installation, a series of workshops or pop-up studios open to the community, a public service announcement, kits that could be given to kids or local community members, an artistic event or happening, a lecture, a beautification project, a documentary film, etc. The possibilities are endless. How would you like to have an impact on the community or environment? This is your chance to speak out and make a difference!

Evaluation Criteria

The review panel will be looking for:
• A clear narrative
• A realistic and well-researched budget
• A clear timeline
• A level of professionalism within the proposal
• The feasibility of the project within the timeline and budget
• The creativity and/or innovation involved in the project

Deadlines

Project submissions are due by January 20, 2017.
A winner will be announced by February 1, 2017.
The selected project must be completed by May 5, 2017.

Ask yourself what you 
would like to see change in our community. How can you create solutions through a creative project?

Sketch

When you have an idea, 
write it down and sketch it out. Visualizing your idea is a great way to begin thinking about it realistically. 

Refer back to the guidelines and evaluation criteria and make sure your project fits. If it doesn't, revise it until
it does.

Submit

Download the Arts& Social Good RFP and write in your proposal. When you've completed the application, email to bbarrow1@uab.edu.

A B O U T 

Bailey Barrow is a Studio Art major in the BFA program concentrating in Graphic Design. She is passionate about the interweaving of technology and fine art and plans to attain a master's degree in Painting/Illustration. She hopes to one day teach at a research university and create interactive art that makes a personal and tangible connection with its viewers.

Cima Khademi is a Studio Art major in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program with a concentration in Painting. Khademi is interested in combining traditional and digital arts to create interesting visuals and animations that connects to viewers in different ways. She plans to attain a masters degree in animation and hopes to work as an animator in the future.​
